The CLASS Experience

Innovation through Interdisciplinary Learning

The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) at Cal Poly Pomona enriches communities through the creation and application of knowledge in the humanities, performing arts, and social sciences. At CLASS, students learn facts and figures, and, more importantly, learn how to weigh and measure ideas to form their own opinions and to communicate with their peers and the world. Our graduates have the skills and knowledge to solve today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.

Encompassing the humanities, performing arts, and social sciences, CLASS offers a diverse range of programs that empower students to explore the human experience through inclusive academic opportunities and hands-on learning. Here, we practice hands-on humanities and arts, from participating in Ethics Bowl competitions to creating podcasts focused on pressing contemporary issues to hosting performances that speak to community experiences.

Our 12 departments and 19 majors reflect the diversity of our nearly 5000 students, with 65% being first-generation college students. Through our programs, students develop critical thinking, creativity, and analysis skills, as well as the empathy essential for thriving in their chosen professions and making meaningful contributions to society.

CLASS provides signature experiences including Model United Nations, student-run news media, judicial internships, music ensembles, and specialized centers [hyperlink to centers and initiatives page] like the California Center for Ethics and Policy and The Democracy Institute. Our Student Success Center offers professional advisors who help students chart paths to success and navigate obstacles.

With 60 scholarships, 20+ clubs, and connections to top employers like Amazon, Disneyland Resort, and Kaiser Permanente, our goal is to equip students with fundamental skills for both personal growth and career success, while fostering a community that enriches the world around us.
